Summer
Pack List
(65-100
degree temperatures)
The following is a suggested packing list for
a Summer weekend campout.
Clothing: Includes the clothes you wear
the 1st day out.
- 3 "Class B" shirts (Troop 412 or any BSA T-shirt)
- 1 sleeping only cotton T-shirt, could be kept in the
sleeping bag
- 2 pr. shorts
- 1 pr. boots (for rain /mud)
- 1 pr. tennis or other lightweight shoes
(unless special permission given, no open toe shoes are allowed on campouts)
- 3 pr. socks
- 3 pr. underpants (boxer type will help prevent rashes)
- (opt.) a bandana (general utility)
- 1 hat ( best are breathable, wide rimmed to protect ears from sunburn )
- (opt.) a stocking cap for keeping your head warm when sleeping
- 1 windbreaker type jacket
- 1 rain suit / poncho. VERY IMPORTANT! If it will not keep you dry
in a hard rain with winds at 35 MPH plus, the danger of hypothermia is real.
If packed in a Backpack, clothing to be
packed in Ziploc bags. Raingear, hat & jacket need to be easily
reached.
Gear:
- 1 sleeping bag or blanket or sheet (for hot nights). The bag should
be rated for summer use (around 50 degrees or above). The bag must
be packed in a waterproof sack. It is of no use if it gets
wet.
- (opt.) sleeping mat. (Thermarest or RidgeRest best ).
- Personal toilet paper, waterproofed in a plastic bag.
- 1-2 personal water bottles (Lexan type will not break)
- Personal eating supplies-non breakable (Lexan good). Mark with ID.
- 1 flashlight , extra batteries , bulb.
- BSA handbook, merit badge books, mechanical pencil or pen, notepad.
- Waterproof matches. Boys are not allowed to use lighters on
campouts.
- Sunscreen / lip balm / insect repellant.
- Personal Toiletries: small toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, nail clipper,
comb, small Hydrocortisone (like Cortaid) for rashes.
- (opt.) small roll Duct Tape – fixes almost anything.
- (opt.) Camera / film.
Electronic equipment is not allowed on
campouts. The use of personal CD players are only allowed to be used when
traveling to and from the campsite.
Personal food and drink is not allowed on
campouts. You are limited to what your patrol selects to bring for food
and drink.
